CookingSouth Returns!
My Third Consecutive Winter at the South
Pole.
Seeking more adventure, I left a career in
collegiate athletics in 2001. I cooked my way
through Chicago, West Yellowstone, Alaska, San
Francisco and Alaska. When in Alaska, a good
friend introduced me to the Executive Chef at the
South Pole Station. That’s right, the very
bottom of the world. It was too late in the
hiring process to get a cooking job, but my sense
of adventure got the best of me and I was off the
the South Pole to wash dishes and clean the
dining room. Today, I have spent three
consecutive winters living at the South Pole and
I run the kitchen as the Winter Sous Chef.
Did I mention I also fell in love, got engaged,
and am moving to New York to attend the Culinary
Institute of America’s ACE program. I am
going to make a run at being a great chef and
continue living an adventurous life with my
soon-to-be wife Heidi.
Originally intended to keep in touch with friends
and family this website can also serve to answer
questions regarding life on the ice. I will
continue to add photos and blog entries as I
prepare for the next stage in my life -- the
return to civilization. Also check Heidi's
blog for other detailed
chronicles of our adventures.
