CookingSouth Three . . . Again and Again?!
My Third Consecutive Winter at the South Pole.

I left Skagway, Alaska to begin working at the South Pole back in October 2005. I have worked as a cook at Amundsen-Scott Station, South Pole, Antarctica ever since. My first contract lasted nearly 13 months. I didn't expect to return, however, in the 11-hour I was called up as an alternate, signing another 9 month contract. That was my second consecutive winter. Now, beginning in February 2008, I have started my third consecutive winter. This time I am running the kitchen, and having a blast doing it. By completion of this contract, I will have spent, 31 of the last 37 months living in the coldest driest place on earth.

This website chronicles my experiences living working and playing at the brand new Amundsen-Scott Station at the bottom of the earth.

Heidi and I were recently engaged on June 25, 2008!

My weeks seem to be flying by with little time to update this site. I will continue to add photos at so you can see what excitement is going on. Also check Heidi's blog for a more detailed chronicle of our adventures.
